Ezra 4-5
“And the prophets of God were with them supporting them.” (5:2) Work on the Temple had been stopped due to a well-organized campaign of intimidation. The Jews had been “discouraged” and “frightened” by their enemies (4:1-4), and even accused of rebellion against the Persian Empire. Eventually, the king sent a “cease and desist” letter (4:23-24). However, the prophets Haggai and Zechariah encouraged the people, reminding them of God’s power and faithfulness, and they “began to rebuild” again (5:2).
With the support of God’s word declared through His prophets, the people realized they didn’t need official permission from the king. They put aside their fears and pressed forward.
