February 25: I Chronicles 13-14

I Chronicles 13-14

"And David was afraid of God that day ..." (13:12). David and his people were worshipping God, and poor Uzzah reached out to protect the ark from falling. Apparently because consecrated priests were not carrying the ark (15:13), God's anger burned (13:10). The result of this disaster was clear. David feared God. In his world, all kings had "gods" of specific places and cultures. Newly-crowned, David was dramatically reminded that he and his people served the True God, who could not be controlled.

God does not exist to serve our purposes, but we exist to serve and glorify Him.
