I Chronicles 17-18
"You shall not build a house for Me to dwell in ..." (17:4). Living in splendor in Jerusalem, David realized that the ark of God was still in a tent. But God stopped him from building a Temple (Solomon had that privilege). God didn't need a house; His desire was for David to follow Him faithfully. That father-son relationship was intended to continue with David's descendants, and God promised to keep them on Israel's throne "forever" (v13-14).
God's primary concern is always our relationship with Him. As we love and obey Him, we faithfully spread His glory.
