Psalm 76
“God is known in Judah, His name is great in Israel. And His tabernacle is in Salem; His dwelling place also is in Zion” (v1-2). These four place names are ways of referring to the physical home of God’s people: Israel, Judah, Salem and Zion. The psalmist is emphasizing God’s promise to live among Abraham’s descendents. The Creator who is “feared by the kings of the earth” (v12) is also the One who bends down to dwell with humans.
God is not far away, keeping watch over the universe. He is Immanuel, God-with-us, and Zion is anywhere we worship and serve Him (Heb 12:22).
