January 1: I Kings 15-16

I Kings 15-16

"Thus Ahab did more to provoke the Lord God of Israel than all the kings of Israel who were before him" (16:31). Both Israel and Judah, northern and southern kingdoms, had completely fallen apart. King Ahab of Israel married infamous Jezebel and began worshipping Baal. There was little evidence in either kingdom that these people had once known the God of Abraham. Solomon's peaceful, united, prosperous kingdom was now two corrupted groups engaged in constant civil war.

No one in Israel could inherit the faith of their fathers. Like us, each generation faced a choice between sin and righteousness.
