“Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock … be on the alert" (v28-31).  Paul had spent three years ministering to the believers in Ephesus.  As he handed over the church to the elders, he told them to expect a continued battle: “savage wolves” (v29) would arise from within and without the church, seeking to separate them from Jesus.  They had no need to fear; God was able to keep them and “give you the inheritance” (v32).

Paul advised the believers to be on guard, but to trust “Him who is able to do exceeding abundantly beyond all that we ask or think” (Eph 3:20).
