January 14: II Chronicles 1-2

II Chronicles 1-2

“Give me now wisdom and knowledge … for who can rule this great people of Thine?” (1:10).  Solomon’s request showed that he had learned some of the humility of his father David.  He didn’t ask for long life, or wealth, or glory, or even protection from his enemies.  He asked for something we all desire: the ability to do our jobs well.  Solomon was called (through no great skill of his own) to be a king, and he wanted to do it well.

King or business person, teacher or parent, we are all called to excellence and to glorify God in our work (3:17).
