Matthew 4:1-11
“Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil” (v1). Hebrews tells us that Jesus was tempted for our sakes. The devil pressed on His human fragility, trying to get Him to take the easy way out, or to give in to pride, arrogance, and selfishness. Because Jesus resisted, He is the perfect High Priest, who sympathizes with our struggles and yet has overcome them (Hebrews 4).
We are no longer alone in our temptations. Jesus dwells in us through the Spirit, and we can “find grace to help in time of need” (4:16).
