Psalm 72

“May he come down … like showers that water the earth.  In his days may the righteous flourish …” (v6-7).  The reign of the Good King brings wonderful benefits.  A leader who upholds justice, wisdom, and righteousness (v1-2) is like rain that makes the earth green and productive.  This God-fearing king hears the cry of the needy and rescues oppressed people (v12-13), so that they want him to reign “from sea to sea” (v8).

We look forward to the complete reign of the Good King, Jesus Christ.  Until then, His ambassadors are called to live out the righteousness and compassion that are the marks of His Kingdom.
