Acts 21
“The will of the Lord be done!” (v14). Many believers knew “by the Spirit” that Paul was going to face danger in Jerusalem (20:23, 21:4,11). Paul agreed with them, but he interpreted the Spirit’s message differently: not that he shouldn’t go to Jerusalem, but that he should be prepared to suffer. He said, “I am ready not only to be bound, but even to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus” (v13).
The avoidance of suffering was not Paul’s main goal. He followed the call of God unconditionally, trusting that the Lord “will bring me safely to His heavenly kingdom” (2 Tim 4:18).
