January 2: I Kings 17-18

I Kings 17-18

"How long will you hesitate between two opinions?" (18:21). God had decided that the terrible idolatry of Ahab's kingdom needed to be checked. Queen Jezebel had declared idolatry to be the religion of their nation by killing most of the prophets loyal to the true God. Common people who wanted to worship God were scared. God sent a terrible drought to get everyone's attention, and then through Elijah showed His great power.

God doesn't leave Himself without witnesses, even in a dark nation. The fire of the Lord fell (18:38), proving God's power and drawing people back to Him.
