Genesis 14-16
“I have sworn to the Lord God Most High … that I will not take a thread or a sandal thong or anything that is yours …” (14:22). After Abram and his allies defeated the king of Sodom, Abram was offered his share of the spoils. But Abram refused, remaining totally dependent on God’s gifts. He avoided entanglement with Sodom. In contrast, Abram’s compromise with Hagar demonstrates a wavering of that faith, an effort to gain God’s gift by force, with dire consequences.
Immature faith relies partly on God and partly on ourselves. God calls us to throw ourselves completely on His promises.
