II Chronicles 7-8
“My wife shall not dwell in the house of David king of Israel, because the places are holy where the ark of the Lord has entered” (8:11). King Solomon recognized the unique holiness of the ark of the covenant. He didn’t want Pharaoh’s daughter living where the ark had rested, probably because the Egyptian woman worshipped pagan gods. Unfortunately, Solomon (as his life demonstrated) seemed to think that holiness was a matter of religious rules, rituals and places, with no implications for his personal relationships.
As children of God, our entire lives (work, recreation, relationships) are holy and infused with His presence. We belong totally to Him.
