January 22: II Kings 11-12

II Kings 11-12

"So all the people of the land rejoiced and the city was quiet" (11:20). Athaliah, Queen mother of Judah, was so extraordinarily evil that she killed her own grandchildren in her quest for power. One small boy escaped due to the quick thinking and bravery of his aunt Jehosheba. Later, a devout priest named Jehoiada gathered a loyal army and set young Jehoash on the throne (v21). The people, terrorized by Athaliah, rejoiced.

Tutored by the priest, Jehoash grew up to be a righteous leader who rebuilt the Temple. His corrupted family did not determine his destiny.
