II Kings 13-14

"You have indeed defeated Edom, and your heart has become proud. Enjoy your glory and stay at home ..." (14:10). This was the king of Israel's advice to Amaziah, king of Judah. Amaziah, feeling invincible because he had defeated Edom, had challenged Israel (larger and stronger) to battle. Amaziah's victory over Edom did not make him wise, it made him reckless, and he was defeated by Israel.

"And the Lord gave Israel a deliverer" (13:5). God was available to both Israel and Judah, whenever their leaders humbled themselves. Any time we lay aside our pride, He is our Deliverer.
