January 23: Proverbs 1

Proverbs 1

“A wise man will hear and increase in learning, and a man of understanding will acquire good counsel” (v5). The proverbs teach that acquiring wisdom is, first of all, an attitude. The right path is clearly marked; Scripture says “wisdom shouts in the streets” (v20). But we sometimes fail to walk on that path because of our pride. We shut our ears to the advice of godly people and our own conscience, because “fools despise wisdom and instruction” (v7).

However, the moment we let go of pride and become learners and listeners, wisdom is again available. The right path is before us.
