Matthew 8

“But just say the word, and my servant will be healed” (v8). The Scripture says that Jesus “marveled” at the centurion’s faith, and so do we. This gentile military man had not been walking intimately with Jesus, as other disciples had. He had simply heard and believed the good news. Others (like most of us) mixed their faith with worries about homes, responsibilities, and dangers (v19-27). The centurion took Jesus completely at His word.

“What kind of a man is this?” (v27). Simply by faith, the centurion believed Jesus was a Man who was both willing and able to help him.
