January 4: Acts 18

Acts 18

“He helped greatly those who had believed through grace” (v27).  Apollo was “an eloquent man,” (v24), gifted in passionate debate and teaching (v24-28).  Priscilla and Aquila, a married couple, were tent-makers who ended up following Paul and helping him preach the gospel.  Others, like Silas, Barnabas, Timothy, (and Luke himself, the author of Acts) were Paul’s companions during many trials.   In Romans 16, Paul commends many other faithful believers by name.

“Now there are a variety of gifts but the same Spirit” (I Cor 12:4).  The church grew and spread through people like Apollo who offered their particular gifts to God’s service.
