January 4: Genesis 1

Genesis 1

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth … and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters” (v2). The first chapters of Genesis define the Creator as One who acts. From the beginning, God was moving, throwing out energy into nothingness and transforming it into something. His words brought forth light, elements, stars, land, plants, and living creatures. He is never static, apathetic or bored. He is the God who creates.

We are “in His image,” and so we bring Him glory when we work, create, and act, motivated like our Father by love.
