July 1: Isaiah 37-39

Isaiah 37-39

“Then Hezekiah took the letter … and he went up to the house of the Lord and spread it out before the Lord” (37:14).  Hezekiah’s kingdom of Judah was no match for the Assyrian empire.  The Assyrian emissary Rashakeh rightly claimed that many nations and gods had fallen before them (ch 36).  Hezekiah had no illusions about Judah’s power, but he served the Creator of heaven and earth (37:16).  In the temple, Hezekiah spread out the threatening letter and begged God for help.

Knowing that his own resources were insufficient, Hezekiah cast himself and his nation into the arms of the Creator.
