July 10: Proverbs 9

Proverbs 9

“Forsake your folly and live!” (v6).  In this poem, “Wisdom” issues an invitation to all those who are foolishly destroying their lives.  It is the invitation God issues to all humanity: “Repent and find real life!”  In our twisted world, evil seems more attractive than the ways of God.  “Stolen water is sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant” (v17).  But the truth is that we are made for fellowship with God, and sinful “pleasure” leads to only death in the end (v18).

Even in our rebellion, God reaches out to us.  He wants us to find the real, satisfying life made possible through Jesus.
