Luke 11
“Father, hallowed by Thy name. Thy kingdom come …” (v2). Jesus taught His disciples to focus on God’s glory and His kingdom before asking for other things. We do need daily bread and forgiveness, and we do need protection from temptation. But we must start with God Himself, with an accurate idea of His nature. He is the kind Father who gives good gifts (v13), and He is a Master who cares about our hearts, not just our images or reputations (v40).
Jesus told people “something greater than Solomon is here” (v31). When we recognize His kindness, power, and perfection, we can begin to pray.
