Isaiah 52-53
“He has no stately form or majesty that we should look upon Him, nor appearance that we should be attracted to Him. He was despised and forsaken of men …” (53:2-3). Though Isaiah prophesied about the suffering Messiah, His appearance was still a surprise. The Messiah was poor, humble, and died on a cross for a reason: “Surely our griefs He Himself bore, and our sorrows He carried” (v4). Jesus was carrying our failures, sins, and sorrows.
Jesus became “a guilt offering” (53:10) for our sakes, so that we can be forgiven and redeemed. He dealt with sin in order to bring “good news of happiness” (52:7).
