July 16: Isaiah 54-55

Isaiah 54-55

“Why do you spend your money for what is not bread, and your wages for what does not satisfy?” (55:2).  Through Isaiah, God called His people to “eat what is good, and delight yourself in abundance” (v2).  The sinful, selfish lives they were living would never satisfy them.  In contrast, God promised to have compassion on them if they repented (v7), and then lead them into joy and peace (v12).  His Word created the world, and His Word still produces life and every good thing (v11).

Rather than exhausting ourselves for worthless, unsatisfying goals, God calls us to drink living water “without money and without cost” (v1).
