July 18: Job 32-37

Job 32-37

“For His eyes are upon the ways of man, and He sees all his steps” (34:21). At the end of Job’s story, God denounced the “advice” of Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar. Job’s friend Elihu was younger and spoke last. God never directly criticized Elihu’s six-chapter sermon, implying that at least some of his message was true. Elihu emphasized God’s all-knowing power and goodness. Job shouldn’t question the Perfect One: “Far be it from God to do wickedness” (v10).

Job himself, suffering and angry, stood firmly on the foundation of God’s character. Job questioned because he knew that God held the answers.
