July 18: Psalm 38

Psalm 38

“For I hope in You, O Lord; You will answer” (v15).  Pain comes from many sources, but this psalm deals specifically with pain caused by personal sin.  “I am full of anxiety because of my sin” (v18), said the psalmist, because he felt the weight of responsibility.  “There is no health in my bones because of my sin” (v3).  The psalmist acknowledged that we are made to walk with God in righteousness, and when we stray from that path, we suffer.

But we have hope (v15).  God is not surprised by our sin; He loves us and always welcomes us home, rejoicing.
