July 20: Isaiah 56

Isaiah 56

“To them I will give, in My house and within My walls, a memorial, and a name better than that of sons and daughters … an everlasting name …” (v5).  Through Isaiah, God spoke remarkable words of hope to the most rejected, marginalized people in Israel’s society.  By law, foreigners had to stay in the outer courts of the Temple, and eunuchs (castrated men) couldn’t serve as priests.  In a culture which revered family and bloodline, these two groups were never fully accepted.

But God promised them abundant life on His “holy mountain” (v3-8).  In His “house of prayer” (v7), all are welcome and beloved.
