July 20: Psalm 108

Psalm 108

“My heart is steadfast, O God; I will sing, I will sing praises, even with my soul” (v1). The psalmist’s heart was “steadfast,” even in the face of terrible enemies. He didn’t believe that he (or Israel) had the strength necessary to defeat anyone. In fact, he said, “deliverance by man is in vain” (v12). His deep trust was in God’s lovingkindness and truth (v4-6). The psalmist experienced fear, sorrow, and frustration, but he still believed that “in God, we shall do valiantly” (v13).

Knowing that the battle is not ours, but God’s, our hearts remain steadfast through every trouble.
