July 22: Isaiah 60

Isaiah 60

“And they will call you the city of the Lord, the Zion of the Holy One of Israel” (v14).  Through Isaiah, God promised His people not just a secure but temporary kingdom, but the glorious home of the redeemed peoples of the earth.  “Zion” includes far more than a physical city; it symbolizes the gathering of God’s people to a place where “you will call your walls salvation, and your gates praise” (v18).  This is where the Lord is “an everlasting light” (v20).

John’s Revelation describes the same joyful kingdom (ch 21).  The salvation begun with Christ’s resurrection will be completed when He returns to reign in peace.
