July 22: Joshua 5

Joshua 5

“The manna ceased on the day after they had eaten some of the produce of the land.”  We have a tendency to look backward and hold on to what is familiar.  When they wandered in the wilderness, the Israelites longed for the melons and cucumbers of Egypt.  They weren’t excited about miraculous manna.  Now, in the Promised Land, God stopped giving them manna so that they would cultivate their farms.  They probably longed for the easy days of free food in the desert.

God continually leads us forward, shaking up our “secure” lives so that we find real security in His perfect love and faithfulness.
