Psalm 108
“For deliverance by man is in vain” (v12). Whenever Israel remembered this truth, they were safe in God’s hands. Whenever they rejected His ways and His protection (the covenant), they were immediately in danger. Their powerful neighbors, Egypt and Babylon, couldn’t help them, and idols and magic were self-destructive. When they affirmed the goodness of God, everything changed. “For Thy lovingkindness is great above the heavens; and Thy truth reaches to the skies” (v4).
Israel’s peace and abundant life rested on one truth: “Through God we shall do valiantly” (v13). The same is true for us.
