July 27: Proverbs 27

Proverbs 27

“Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth” (v1). The proverbs urge us to be humble about our plans for the future, and James in the New Testament repeated this advice (James 4:14). Humility also involves allowing others to praise us (v2), recognizing our vulnerability (v12), and being accurate and realistic about our short lives (v23-24). This frees us to live joyfully in the present.

We don’t have to boast about the future or fear it. As believers, we can trust that God is in charge of yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
