Ecclesiastes 3-5
“Here is what I have seen to be good and fitting: to eat, to drink, and enjoy oneself in all one’s labor …for this is his reward” (v18). During our years on earth, the author declared that the basic rhythm of work and rest is the most satisfying life. Obsessing about the accumulation of riches is “vain” (pointless), because bank accounts may disappear (5:13-14). And a life of total leisure is frustrating and unsatisfying (5:12).
Working (and enjoying the fruit of our labor) “is the gift of God” (3:13). We were created in God’s image, to be creative and productive.
