Luke 10
“Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things; but only a few things are necessary …” (v41). The remarkable thing about Jesus’ words to Martha was that in ancient Jewish culture (and most cultures), Martha was doing the right thing. Women were taught to serve in the home, so Martha was fulfilling her obligations. When Jesus applauded Mary’s choice to sit at His feet, He was declaring that both men and women are equally called to a direct, personal relationship with Him.
Men and women, married and single, old and young, we each have the privilege of knowing and being known by Jesus.
