July 9: Deuteronomy 29-32

Deuteronomy 29-32

“So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants, by loving the Lord your God, by obeying His voice, and by holding fast to Him” (30:19).  The Israelites weren’t “saved” by obeying the Law of God.  Following the Law produced blessings because life according to God’s plan is always better.  But the heart of the Law was loving God and trusting in His provision and salvation, which would eventually be revealed in Jesus’ sacrifice.

God promised to one day “circumcise your heart … to love the Lord … that you may live” (30:6).  Life-enhancing and fruitful obedience flows from love.
