Psalm 102
“From heaven the Lord gazed upon the earth, to hear the groaning of the prisoner; to set free those who were doomed to death” (v19-20). This is God’s character, according to the psalmist: He cares for those who are suffering. The psalmist felt like “a lonely bird on a housetop” (v7). His heart had “withered away” and he had “eaten ashes like bread” (v9). In his distress, he called on God and confidently expected an answer.
“But Thou art the same” (v27). As his world crumbled and everything was shaken, the psalmist turned to the God who endures forever (v26).
