Luke 6
“Be glad in that day and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven” (v23). Jesus talked a lot about heaven, linking people's behavior with their view of God and eternity. He undermined all the accepted marks of a good earthly life: wealth, possessions, a good reputation: “Woe to you when all men speak well of you” (v26) … “Woe to you who are rich” (v24-25). “Winning” in the eyes of the world does not mean we are accepted by God.
“Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful” (v36). Jesus said our behavior should be rooted in the character of God.
