June 24: Deuteronomy 12-14

Deuteronomy 12-14

“But you shall seek the Lord at the place which the Lord your God shall choose from all your tribes” (12:5).  God said that when the Israelites were established in the Promised Land, one city (Jerusalem) would become the place of worship.  They were not supposed to worship alone, each individual doing what they wanted, because this would lead inevitably to idolatry (v13, 26, 27).  Alone, they were vulnerable to mixing the worship of God with the idolatrous rituals of their neighbors (v30).

We were created to worship God in community.  Now, there is no single place that is especially holy, except wherever God’s people gather to praise Him.
