June 24: Isaiah 31-32

Isaiah 31-32

“And the work of righteousness will be peace, and … quietness and confidence forever” (32:17).  Isaiah gives us a picture of the coming King who “will reign righteously” (32:1).  Rather than injustice, greed and violence, the rule of a righteous King provides “shelter from the storm,” and “streams of water in a dry country” (32:2).  In that kingdom, men and women are free to worship and work “in quietness and confidence” rather than in anxiety and distress.

By the power of the Spirit which has been poured out (32:15), we are called to practice the values of God’s kingdom, and to watch for the King’s return.
