Luke 7:1-17
“And when he heard about Jesus, he sent some Jewish elders asking Him to come and save the life of his slave” (v3). This Roman centurion was so well-known and admired that he was able to send “Jewish elders” to Jesus, and they vouched for his character (v5). The most striking thing about this man of high status was his humility. He asked for healing for a slave, and he said “I am not worthy” to directly approach Jesus.
This Roman combined remarkable humility with remarkable faith. He believed Jesus could simply “say the word” and his slave would be healed (v7).
