June 29: Luke 7:18-50

Luke 7:18-50

“Your sins have been forgiven” (v48).  Luke repeatedly compares how different people responded to Jesus.  “The Pharisees and the lawyers rejected God’s purpose for themselves” (v30), because they already felt justified.  They didn’t feel like they “needed” Jesus the way known sinners did (v36-39).  They were embarrassed by the woman who anointed Jesus’ feet with perfume, not understanding that she, receiving forgiveness and mercy, was the blessed one.

“Your faith has saved you” (v50).  Many people miss out on salvation due to pride; in order to receive grace, we have to acknowledge our need.
