June 9: Numbers 34-36

Numbers 34-36

“When you enter the land of Canaan …” (v2).  We forget that when God gave these instructions, the Israelites were still outside the Promised Land.  Yet God said “When you enter,” not “If you enter.”  From God’s perspective, His will was already accomplished.  He told them where each tribe should live, including the landless Levites, and He set up “cities of refuge” to break the tradition of revenge-killings.   These commands were given to Moses “in the plains of Moab by the Jordan opposite Jericho” (36:13).

God’s “precious and magnificent promises” to us are just as firm and sure in Christ Jesus (2 Peter 1:4).
