March 12: Proverbs 21

Proverbs 21

“He who loves pleasure will become a poor man … the desire of the sluggard puts him to death” (v17, 25).  The proverbs teach that our desires drive our actions, for better or worse.   The desires for pleasure, comfort, and abundance are not evil in themselves, but when they become the strongest passions of our lives, they lead to death.  In contrast, when a man or woman desires to know and serve God above all else, the rest of life’s goals find their place.

“He who pursues righteousness and loyalty finds life, righteousness and honor” (v21).
