March 13: Psalm 83

Psalm 83

“Do not be silent, and, O God, do not be still” (v1).  The psalms are beloved because they express the deepest desires of our hearts.  When we are faced with unsolvable problems, when we feel surrounded by visible or invisible enemies, we want God to act.  “O God, make them like the whirling dust” (v13), the psalmist begged, asking for God’s help against his foes.  He saw people doing evil and arrogantly assuming God didn’t exist.  He asked God to show His power: “Terrify them with Thy storm” (v15).

We ask for God’s help confidently, knowing that “we overwhelming conquer through Him who loved us” (Rom 8:37).
