March 17: Matthew 22

Matthew 22

“You are mistaken, not understanding the Scriptures or the power of God” (v29).  When the Sadducees asked Jesus to sort out the heavenly marriage status of a woman who had been married seven times (v28), they were trying by exaggeration to demonstrate the “ridiculous” nature of the resurrection.  But Jesus pointed out their error.  In a word, He freed women from the bondage of being someone’s eternal property (v30), and He declared that God is “the God of the living.”

Embracing life in the Kingdom of God means letting go of dead things: categories, values, and habits that belong to a corrupted and dying world.
