March 26: Psalm 85

Psalm 85

“Surely His salvation is near to those who fear Him, that glory may dwell in our land” (v9).  The psalmist said that God had forgiven the iniquity of His people and covered their sin (v1).  Now, the psalmist asked, “Restore us,” (v4).  Take away the corruption of sin, the suffering caused by greed, selfishness, and pride (v8).  The psalmist described the biblical vision of a changed world, when forgiven, redeemed, transformed people live and work in peace. “Lovingkindness and truth have met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other” (v10).

This is a biblical vision of “glory”: a righteous, peaceful, loving community reflecting the character of God.
