Romans 13
“Wherefore it is necessary to be in subjection, not only because of wrath, but also for conscience’ sake” (v5). While the book of Acts (4:19) demonstrates certain times when we must choose Jesus over the law, Paul is very clear: authority, rules and order are “established by God” (v1), and in general our duty as Christians is to obey. Real obedience isn’t only “being good when someone is watching,” but a commitment to living with integrity far beyond simply avoiding punishment.
Freedom and peace come from a clean conscience before God. The “armor of light” is this life of integrity, where we have nothing to hide (v12).
