Matthew 26
“So, you men could not keep watch with Me for one hour?” (v40). Jesus’ words embarrass us, because we too would have fallen asleep in the garden. Through the hours leading to His death, the contrast between Jesus and His friends grew more obvious. They boasted about being brave; He really was. They reacted violently, but He “kept silent.” And yet this scared and unfaithful group were the ones to whom He said: “Take, eat, this is My body” (v26).
Jesus poured Himself out for us. His courage, purity, and love conquered death and made us, sinful and weak, glorious children of God.
