March 4: I Chronicles 19-20

I Chronicles 19-20

"Be strong, and let us show ourselves courageous for the sake of our people and for the cities of our God" (19:13). Facing a tough army brought out the best in David's warriors. All through Israel's history, being outnumbered or disadvantaged inspired courage and dependence on God (see Gideon). In contrast, "but David stayed at Jerusalem" (20:1) refers to when King David didn't join the battle, with disastrous results (Bathsheba).

"For God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the ... strong" (I Cor 1:27). When we step out in our vulnerability, He is with us.
