March 6: Psalm 82

Psalm 82

“Do justice to the afflicted and destitute.  Rescue the weak and needy” (v3-4).  The psalmist pictures God as He “takes His stand” and “judges in the midst of the rulers” (v1).  God surveys the powerful leaders of the earth, and He accuses them of judging “unjustly.”  They are “sons of the Most High,” full of potential, power, and resources, but they are oppressing the weak and turning justice upside down.  So they will “die like men” (v7); their status and wealth will be stripped away.

Because of corrupt human nature, the strong take advantage of the weak, but God calls His people to be different.
